Cities campaign and the recent Paris Declaration, has announced a strategic partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to help scale circular economy solutions. Almost half of the emissions that cause climate change come from the way products and food are manufactured and consumed. There is a growing understanding that to fix the climate, it is necessary to fix the structure of the economy. A circular economy offers scalable solutions to reduce emissions and regenerate nature; is inclusive, diverse, distributed and has three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use, and regenerate natural systems.
An analysis by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation indicates that renewable energy is not enough, as greenhouse gas emissions are not falling fast enough to achieve climate goals and switching to renewable energy can only reduce them by 55%. There needs to be a fundamental shift in the global approach to tackling climate change and the circular economy Anhui Mobile Number List can play an essential role. As cities look to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and address major challenges such as climate change, the circular economy offers a framework of systems solutions to unlock economic, environmental and society-wide benefits.
Other Latin American cities are already looking towards the circular economy as they make ambitious climate commitments: In its document “Nationally Determined Contribution, 2020 update”, the Government of Mexico reaffirmed the commitments assumed in 2015 before the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), as well as its interest in working collaboratively with the international community to keep the global temperature increase below 2°C, by establishing commitments regarding adaptation to climate change and mitigation of Greenhouse Gases and Compounds (GyCEI) at the same level of importance. It should be noted that this document contemplates, as part of its actions, the development of a National Circular Economy Strategy, with a systemic approach to industrial activity.
